Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for refuelling
   • Access, interpret and apply documentation and procedures for refuelling vehicles and machines underground and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Comply with relevant regulations and standards
   • Locate designated fuel bay and manoeuvre vehicle/machine to correct refuelling location
   • Shutdown vehicle/machine by following correct shutdown procedures for refuelling area
   • Check fire fighting equipment in refuelling area before commencing
   • Check for and/or activate ventilation devices in refuelling area before commencing
2. Refuel vehicle/machine
   • Refuel vehicle/machine, staying with vehicle during the entire operation
   • Comply with environmental procedures and response plans
3. Conduct housekeeping functions
   • Correctly re-hang hose and conduct fuel bay housekeeping
   • Complete all required records and written documentation

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of refuelling vehicles/machines underground including:

checking fire fighting equipment

checking for and activating ventilation devices

complying with environmental procedures and response plans

selecting and fitting appropriate personal protective equipment

completing documentation for refuelling activities

demonstrates completion of refuelling vehicles/machines underground that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

locating designated fuel bay and manoeuvring vehicle/machine to correct location

shutting down vehicle/machine

refuelling vehicle/machine

returning hoses to correct location

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in refuelling vehicles/machines underground through:

underground mine and site operations

identifying hazards

handling hazardous goods

interpreting ground conditions

interpreting plans, reports, maps and specifications

recording and reporting

work health and safety

emergency situations and environmental issues

isolation

start-up and shutdown activities

night and day working

driving techniques in dark and enclosed conditions

hand tools

equipment processes, technical capability and limitations

geological and technical data

road rules
